7. září 2011. Do Volhy se zřítilo dopravní letadlo. Téměř všichni hráči oblíbeného hokejového mužstva včetně tří Čechů zahynuli... Během přípravy na hokejovou sezonu 2011/2012 se Lokomotivu velmi dařilo. Vyhrál sedm z devíti zápasů. Fanoušci věřili, že má velkou šanci získat Gagarinův pohár. Ovšem pouze do chvíle, než letadlo s hráči odstartovalo na zhruba dvouhodinový let z Jaroslavli do Minsku a krátce po vzletu, během něhož stroj nebyl schopen nabrat výšku, se zřítilo. Oblíbenec hokejových nadšenců Alexandr Galimov a mechanik Alexandr Sizov jako jediní přežili, Galimov však po pěti dnech v nemocnici svým zraněním podlehl. Nejen sportovní svět truchlil a ptal se po příčině pádu letadla. Byla na vině technická závada nebo havárii zavinil některý z pilotů? Vyšetřování přineslo nečekané poznatky a postavilo bezpečnost leteckého provozu v Rusku do nepříliš příznivého světla. (Česká televize)
