Detektiv Murdoch vyšetřuje smrt estrádního komika Berta Gradyho, který byl nalezen na ulici s třemi ranami v hrudníku. Podle rekonstrukce se Grady vracel v noci domů z Bradleyho divadla. Představení se účastní policisté Crabtree a Higgins, kteří se v přestrojení za komiky také objeví na jevišti. Podezřelé z vraždy detektiv Murdoch přitom hledá především mezi účinkujícími Bradleyho divadla. Správnost této myšlenky se potvrdí, když z hotelového pokoje Gradyho zmizí jeho sešity se zapsanými vtipy a nápady pro komediální výstupy...(Česká televize)
