Na strome nájdu obeseného farmára. V prvom momente si všetci myslia, že ide o samovraždu, ale podľa pitvy sa zistí, že obeti niekto predtým zlomil krk. Murdoch prehľadá dielňu nebohého a objaví v nej ďalekohľady, mapy a rôzne poznámky o astronómii. Podľa všetkého skúmal oblohu, hviezdy a vraj bol presvedčený, že ho prenasledujú Marťania. Murdoch sa však nazdáva, že jeho vražda mala oveľa prízemnejší charakter.(STV)
