Několik sáhů pod korálovým ostrovem Bikini, v podmořském městě Zátiší Bikin, bydlí SpongeBob ve dvoupatrovém ananasu. Místo, aby každodenní problémy řešil logicky, SpongeBob přistupuje k životu velmi svérázným a neobvyklým způsobem.
