Woman at War
Halla, a popular 50-year-old choir director, lives quietly on her own. Yet in her leisure time, she is an anonymous environmental activist, bringing down power lines, thus causing enormous financial damage to an industrial giant wrecking the pristine Icelandic nature. Longing for a better world, Halla hesitates as to whether she should adopt an orphaned Ukrainian girl or to carry out terrorist acts in order to awaken the local society and to irritate politicians and security forces. Benedikt Erlingsson’s film A Woman at War delicately blends crazy comedy, action thriller and ironic satire of the Western society, trapped between affluence and the foreboding of its downfall. Critics' Week Grand Prix, Cannes 2018 LUX Film Prize 2018
