Během zdánlivě nekonečné letní dovolené s dědou Maxem a sestřenkou Gwen objeví Ben Tennyson mimozemské hodinky známé jako Omnitrix. Toto úžasné zařízení dává Benovi schopnost proměnit se v jednoho z deseti mimořádných ufonských hrdinů. Benův Omnitrix vypadá jen jako supermoderní náramkové hodinky, ale umí toho víc, než se na první pohled zdá. Když vytočí kód DNA jednoho z deseti mimozemšťanů a stiskne sklíčko hodinek, Ben spustí genetickou proměnu, která přemění jeho tělo na jednoho z deseti ufonských hrdinů. Žádná technologie ale není dokonalá. Někdy je genetická proměna vyloženě náhodná bez ohledu na to, jakou proměnu si Ben zvolil. A proměna po velmi krátké době skončí a Ben se vrátí do své původní fyzické podoby (občas v úplně nevhodnou chvíli). Vše nasvědčuje tomu, že Omnitrix je nejmocnější zbraň v celém známém vesmíru, a přitom je na zápěstí pyšně nosí desetiletý kluk z planety Země!
